How to Get Ready for Your Next Exciting Role

Are you in a job that you feel is long past its use by date?

The fun, excitement and passion for what you did are long gone.

Monday mornings are a dread with that sinking, ground hog feeling as you think about the week ahead.

You feel frustrated, stuck and angry, as right now, you don’t even have a vision for what else you could be doing. Or what you would like to be doing feels so impossible and not one that would pay the bills.

For comfort and distraction, you binge on food, alcohol and drugs or other ‘blotting out’ fixes. But you know deep down that this is not the solution.

Leadership: 5 Keys to Focus your Authentic Legacy Story

“Your story is the greatest legacy that you will leave to your friends. It’s the longest-lasting legacy you will leave to your heirs.” —Steve Saint

It was a leisurely Spring Saturday morning as we drove out. On the way, we decided to visit the local farmers market down St. George’s Bay Road in Parnell.

It was kind of relaxing milling around with all the other committed market goers and some tourists along with the regular stall owners with their delicious and varied offerings.

Reflection: What Seeds are we Planting?

A friend who had been away from home for several weeks was complaining about how much the weeds had grown in his absence. And worse, before he could attend to this, he had to take another unscheduled trip, which left no competition between him and the rambling mini forest (okay – a wee exaggeration!) on his return.

Leadership: The Role of Emotions in Decision-Making

When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.

– Dale Carnegie

As my colleague and I prepare for the next round of Authentic Leadership workshops, I have been reflecting on emotions in the workplace.

In the past, emotions have had a bad rap in the business world.

Good decision-making has typically highlighted clear logic, rational analysis, and excellent critical thinking.  All of these venerate cool logic over messy things like emotions, intuition or gut feelings.

In fact, with some organizations, the mantra has been “when you come to work, leave emotions at home!” Yep – hang it like you would a coat on a coat stand before you enter the work place

Mid-life: What New Seeds are Wanting to Emerge?

Sometime, somewhere, you wake up to life.

You are going along in life and then either gradually or very suddenly the axis on which life was moving completely changes.

Perhaps it is slow and gradual like the growing sense of dissatisfaction with what used to give you pleasure, to sudden changes in relationships, health or job status.

You’re left wondering what happened; you try to ‘force’ things to work the same way as they used to but it doesn’t work.

A framework that helps you decide when to keep it and when to give up.

Aphorisms and proverbs sometimes pack powerful wisdom. We are fond of quoting them and using them to guide our behavior or to explain it.

But have you noticed how many of them contradict each other?

Three Hacks for Influencing with Greater Impact

Building relationship may not increase influence. But no-one increases influence without building relationship. – Dr. Mark Strom

Our life is a series of interactions, reflection and action. In our organizational and business life, influencing others, be it our direct reports, manager, or customers, helps us progress with our goals.  Our personal life is no different but that is another blog!

And yet for many of us, we lose confidence when we have to do this.

The hesitancy embodies messages like, “I am not sure how they will react, what if things get worse to I don’t have the right skills and how do I this when I hold a contrary view and maintain the relationship?”

Can you relate to any of the above?  Or perhaps you have your own rationale/story of what gets in the way. (I would love to hear so please feel free to add in the comments section below).

The good news is that you can become more effective at communicating and expressing yourself, being heard and crashing through any self (or other) imposed barriers holding you from success.

Here are three things to be mindful of:

Jayne has worked with CEOs and Senior executive teams around the world, best selling authors, trailblazing coaches, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, millionaires and people who simply want to make a difference. An expert on business and leadership, Jayne specializes in helping coaches build conscious, seven figure businesses through her new brand Coaches Business School.

1. What prompted you to write this book?

I realized that most coaches were being taught how to create a successful coaching business largely by internet marketers and their approach simply doesn’t work for coaches. There are some coach training schools who are also trying to equip coaches with the skills they need to build a successful coaching business but business is changing so fast this isn’t their strengths and so coaches are not getting the information or developing the skills they need to be successful in today’s digital marketplace. There are some great people teaching pieces of business, but no-one is teaching a complete system. The industry is heavily weighted towards great coaching but not great business and self employed coaches, which makes up the majority of coaches worldwide can’t be successful or fulfill their potential as a coach if they don’t know how to create a successful coaching business.

I’m concerned that although coaching is the second fastest growing profession worldwide, the income individual coaches are earning from their coaching skills is decreasing. I want to change that. And business is my strength, so sharing what I know with coaches can only benefit.

2) In this digital era, what are some fundamentals that coaches need to have in place to grow their business and thrive? Continue reading
